Welcome!
This page is dedicated to all the independent-minded citizens of Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District, plus all the volunteers whose tireless efforts help to promote our party's values:
World-class health care for all Minnesotans at a competitive cost
Top quality education for students of all ages, including career retraining efforts
A clear and sustainable energy strategy that doesn't rely too heavily on foreign-derived resources
Reversing current trends in creating pollution and promoting environmental stewardship
A transportation policy and infrastructure that works for all Minnesotans, regardless of where they live, work and play
State planning and budgeting that avoids gimmicks, accounting shifts, and antagonistic battles between the various branches of government.
Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District is comprised of many communities in suburban Hennepin County plus the Coon Rapids area in southern Anoka County.

Personal Responsibility
I can't emphasized enough how personal responsibility is so important in the Independence Party. Personal responsibility is one of our party principles and plays a role in our policies, procedures and platform.
What this means to you is that YOU are responsible for keeping yourself up to day on all party activities. Our funding for US mailing is limited. So you need to either email me or look at this web page regularly to know what is happening in your district.
I will do my part by making announcements on this 3rd CD web page. You do YOUR part by checking here often. I will use email to also keep you informed. YOUR responsibilty is to read your party emails when you receive tham.
As always, please email me if you have any questions or suggestions for the 3rd CD. I reply to all emails usually within one day. I hope to see you at a meeting or on the campaign trail soon.

Independence Party Congressional District 3 elects new officers
On Sat. March 5, the 3rd CD held their Annual Meeting and elected new officers.
Your new officers are:
Chair Kyle Lewis, Eden Prairie
Vice Chair – Robin Carpenter, Edina
Treasurer – Diane Goldman, Plymouth
Secretary – Jon Oleson, Bloomington
After searching for a home to rest his political mind, new 3rd CD Chair Kyle Lewis brings to the party several years of party and campaign experience from both major parties and most recently volunteering on the Horner campaign. Realizing his passion was in trying to make Minnesota and America a better place not just tear down the other side, he looks forward to helping grow the party and making Minnesota home to a strong vibrant option for those disenfranchised from the current system.
In addition, four new state delegates were voted into the district. They are Matt Lewis, Carol Schreiber, Brad Schaeppi and Ian English. All 4 were volunteers with the Horner for Governor Campaign. I hope you will welcome them into the party and greet them at the April 3oth State Convention.
Two resolutions were approved at the meeting as well.
Offered by Jeff Eckland:
“It is hereby resolved that the Independence Party should form a committee to consider the proposal and ratification of an amendment to the U.S. Constitution permitting appropriate limitations upon political contributions made by corporations or unions that were held unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court in Citizens United v. FEC.”
Offered by Tom Horner:
“Be it resolved that the IP allow candidates to accept contributions from Political Action Committees with the 2 following provisions:
This rule will be in force as long as the “Citizens United” Supreme Court decision is in effect. IP candidates accepting PAC money must disclose the contributions on their campaign web sites before spending the money. “
Both resolutions will be voted on by State Delegates at the April 30th State Convention to be added to our platform.

"There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution."
