Independence Minnesota

Congressional District 1  - Welcome!

Our district extends across the southern tier of counties of Minnesota, going all the way from the South Dakota border to the Mississippi River.  We are home to some of the richest farm land in the world, as well as commercial, technical and medical centers based in Rochester, Mankato, Austin and numerous smaller communities in our area.

We are proud to say that we have provided a strong base of support for the Independence Party.  Many of the strongest precincts in federal races as well as in the governor’s race have come from our district.  We are home to several candidates who have over the years made a strong showing in their respective races, such as Tim Penny, Mike Meyer and Steve Wilson.  There are numerous office holders who maintain their loyalty to the IP, such as Mayor Mark Novak of Janesville, Mayor Roy Srp of Waseca and St. Peter school board member Dr. Marty Duncan.

The Independence Party and What It Stands For

Political Bickering: How is it working for you?

Watching the news, we can’t help but wonder how or when the important issues will be addressed.  Both Democrats and Republicans seem bent on ramming through their agenda, relying only on support from the extreme ends of their parties.

Many moderate liberals and conservatives step into the voting booth, not to vote for a given candidate, but rather to vote against the person they feel is the worst candidate.  Special interest groups only exaggerate this problem by funding extreme campaigns and producing attack ads which further distort the picture.

The Independence Party of Minnesota stands to be a party of principles!  We seek to put forward candidates who you can vote for!  We support policies for the general good - not SPECIAL INTERESTS which undeniably dominate the other two parties.

Government: There is no free lunch.

Everyone understands that, especially during these difficult economic times, government needs to tighten its belt.  But,` all we see are the partisans trying to cut the policies and programs that the other side holds dear. Republicans are for cuts without reform and Democrats are for tax increases without reform.

The Independence Party of Minnesota believes that every program worth doing should be pushed to be more efficient.  Questionable programs should be evaluated, and if
necessary - cut!

We hear that taxes are the ultimate evil.  We hear that the poor should pay none and the rich should pay less. Taxes are not evil! They are the way by which we patriotically support the important functions of our government.

There is no free lunch!  If we want government to perform important functions in our society, we need to pay for them.

Centrist Solutions: We are all in this together!

The Independence Party of Minnesota wants to work toward solutions and innovation.  We recognize that, to move forward, we need to take on a spirit of shared sacrifice and shared responsibility.

We want to fully support education and encourage its ongoing reform.  We want to take steps to improve opportunities for business, protect against over-regulation, but see that each regulation is fairly enforced.

We advocate for tolerance across the social spectrum.

We seek to be a party which leads by principles, not one led partisan interests.

The values that unite us, strengthen us, and the forces that divide us, only serve to make us weaker.
