Tom Horner wins Independence Primary and challenges Senator Dayton and Representative Emmer to stick to issues and solutions.
"There are real differences between the candidates", says Tom. We agree and when Minnesotans hear Tom Horner and Jim Mulder they will understand that these are Minnesota's best leaders.
What's in the Horner/Mulder Community Vitality Plans? New Ideas and Real Solutions!
Tom Horner and Jim Mulder released a new community vitality plan today which would be a watershed if implemented in Minnesota. These are not just new jobs as in adding existing types of jobs (there is that too)....this is about creating the new types of jobs Minnesota needs to stay ahead. Kudos to Jim Mulder for stating what few politicians dare to say...something real. How do we bring more community vitality?
Creating Jobs: To spur economic growth, we will propose: funding applied research at the University of Minnesota and other higher education institutions that open doors to new industries; promoting innovation and new technologies that come from our educational institutions and add value to the entire state; and exempting businesses from the state sales tax on capital purchases.
Improving Infrastructure: The proposal assures that local communities have the infrastructure that businesses need to grow, compete and prosper, especially in the areas of transportation and technology. Examples include expanding the state broadband backbone to ensure that each Minnesota community, business and citizen has access to the next generation’s super highway and moving forward on a strong transportation network that can move product to markets and support worker access to jobs.
Investing in knowledge: Minnesota needs to be known as the knowledge state, and we achieve this through a trained work force. A vital element of a solid economic development plan is to coordinate state supported education and training programs that meet the needs of expanding businesses in every community.
“As a state we must recognize that for many communities adding one job to a local manufacturer or to the construction of a new home, which keeps local carpenters, plumbers and electricians working, is economic development,” Mulder said. “And lasting and thriving economic development calls for forward and independent thinking that brings new types of jobs and technology to people in every corner of the state.”
Sometimes people honestly change their mind...other times they patronize each audience differently. What do you think Tom Emmer is doing when riding the high speed train for free?
Astounding! It just goes to show you how low candidates in the two old parties go in patronizing everybody. Today Tom Emmer declared to a Rochester audience that he while he was against high speed rail that he, as Governor, would let local communities direct state policy on this issue:
"I haven't been a fan of it in the past which is no secret," Emmer said. "But again, when you're governor, you have to wait until local people do the work and figure out whether it's something the state should be facilitating or not."
Now..let's get this straight. Representative Emmer refuses to give budget specifics, but says he won't raise taxes, but says that he will cut state spending by 1/3, which ultimately will even require cuts in bonding. Do you suppose he expects Rochester to pay for the train with a soda pop tax (fee). The Independence Party supports the most cost effective transportation system, including rail where it works. The fact is, however, we also support honest budgeting.
No candidate for governor, except our Tom Horner, has even produced a budget yet (Tom Emmer won't talk about it). Isn't it time to stand up for someone willing to deliver hard news...to tell you what it takes to buy something, and who is willing to put things on the record?
Yes. Please show your support for Tom Horner for Governor by volunteering or contributing to his campaign today-
