Solution to MN deficit won't come from state's lawmakers.

Read this article from the Saint Paul Legal Ledger. Sean Kershaw, executive director of the St. Paul-based Citizens League, and Tom Horner, principle of the Himle Horner public relations firm in Minneapolis, address the politics of Minnesota's structural deficit. These policy experts spell out why lawmakers will not find a solution to our recurring budget deficit and surmise next year's election will be an opportunity for Independence Party candidates.

I agree that new and innovative ideas will not come from the same old players. Both the Democrats and Republicans will offer the same solutions for the same problems.

I found it encouraging that the article from the St. Paul Legal Ledger indicated that the time might be right for the electorate to seek a candidate outside of the two party system. However, I wish we would start seeing a candidate for governor step forward. The Republicans and Democrats are busy building organizational infrastructure in the race for governor. And like it or not, organization has a lot to do with winning on election day.

I know we like to think that our candidate will be a breath of fresh air after the electorate tires of seeing the other two candidates. But I’m not sure if that 'breath-of-fresh-air' value is enough to get us over the top to overcome an organizational advantage.

I for one would like to see some IP candidates for governor step forward, and then get to work to support that candidate.
